Sansovino golden wooden cartouche

€1,300.00Price

The Sansovino type frame is classified among the most famous types of the sixteenth century.

It's present in the Veneto region from the second half of the sixteenth century, and was adopted until the 18th century, but the most original phase died out at the beginning of the seventeenth century.

It is characterized by an exuberance of decorative motifs taken from classical antiquity, such as: volutes, capitals, festoons, cherub heads and partially overlapping cartouches, which give rise to a rich and sumptuous complex.

This type of frame is universally attributed to the Venetian school, and there is no doubt that it was precisely in the lagoon city that it was developed and brought to the most significant forms by artists and artisans, who worked in the context of the sculptor and architect Jacopo Tatti, known as Sansovino .
