Caligo beltrao

Splendid wood and glass display case, coming from an ancient private entomological collection, containing a Caligo butterfly.
Characterized by large dimensions and by the large stains present on the hind wings; for characteristic shape that it assumes, it is vulgarly defined as butterfly "owl's head", the "eyes" of the raptor are detectable on the wings and discourage possible predators from approaching it.
 
Given the twilight habit of these splendid creatures, their skill of mimesis is necessary, they are commonly spread in the tropical forests of Latin America, in this specific case, of Brazil.
